Hello everyone and welcome to my English as a Second Language website!
My name is Kevin Chevalier and I am here to help you gain English proficiency beyond the beginner (elementary) levels. I have a background in journalism, public health, and health psychology and my main research work is in literacy (both scientific and educational literacy). I have worked for organizations such as Genesis Health and Breast Cancer Imperative to assist individuals understand complex scientific and health information. I have also taught students at the university level where I helped simplify mathematical concepts and provided tips for writing research papers during their undergraduate work. Since Spring 2014, I've also been volunteering at New York Public Library's English Conversation Group where I help facilitate English discussion with non native speakers of English on a variety of topics.
The purpose of the lessons on this site is to provide my students, clients, and group members with resources to increase their development of functional American English. My goal is to assist individuals with reaching an Intermediate High to Advanced Low/High proficiency to be able to function in an American employment setting as well as tackle examinations such as TOEFL for academic needs.
The lessons are structured and designed for those whose native language is not English. For native speakers who want to review the lessons as a simple refresher, you are more than welcome to go through them.
Learning another language can be quite intimidating so my approach is to assess an individual's skill level and work with a style that works for them. What may work for one person, may not work for another. As such, I tried to design the lessons to be comprehensive yet simple. If you have any questions at all regarding the lessons, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them.
For information on private English lessons, please click here: Kevin's Personalized English Lessons or you can click "Personalized Lessons" under the "About" tab on the menu bar.
Happy learning and best wishes to all of you!
Sincerely,
